Landon's 4th Birthday

A few weeks ago we had a small family get together for Landon's 4th birthday party.  Since his birthday is in June it's the perfect time to throw a pool party.  And what's a pool party without a dinosuar cake!  It makes perfect sense right?  : )

I just realized that I didn't take a single picture of the cake to where you can actually see what it looks like, Oh well!

Happy Birthday sweet boy!

Tractor Cake

This cute little tractor cake was for 2 year old Eli.  According to mom he had a John Deere Tractor party but since his daddy has a red tractor we just had to his tractor cake in red as well.  Like father, like son :)

Cullman Bearcats Cakes

It's been so busy around our house lately that I've forgotten to post the last few cakes I've done.

So I was asked by my cousin Sarah to make a cake for her son's 14th birthday (which completely makes me feel ancient, but that's beside the point).  Since he was having a "family" party AND his first "boy/girl" party I had to make to cakes, cause I mean let's face it we can't serve a half eaten cake from the night before at you first boy/girl party.  Cullman Bearcats were the theme for this party....

Elmo Cakes

Here are they practice cakes I made for a friend's son's 1st birthday.  I always like making a practice cake that way I can see all the things I would change for the "real" cake.  Elmo's the theme for this party!

So, tell me what you think?

Happy 50th Birthday Pop!

So tomorrow is my dad's 50th birthday and so we headed down to Trussville today to help him celebrate.  We had a WONDERFUL meal and afterwards we enjoyed this...

I saw this really cool cake online that actually had houndstooth on it, but when I attempted it, it was a disaster so i opted for the black checked squares instead.  I know it doesn't have the same effect but it's the best I could do.

The birthday boy!

The hungry vultures waiting to cut the cake.

Happy Birthday Dad, we love you and enjoyed our day with you today!

Just Because

This morning I told Eugene that I was going to make him a surprise today.  A red velvet cake, his favorite.  I could tell he didn't really want a red velvet cake but he never said anything otherwise.  when I asked him id red velvet was ok he responded with "How about chocolate?"  So chocolate is what he got...

Homemade chocolate cake with homemade chocolate buttercream, YUM!

Did I go a little overboard with the whole groom's cake theme for a cake that's just going to be eaten at home?  Nah!

Landon HAD to take a picture of the cake too, to be honest I kinda like how it's at an angle : )

Happy 30th Birthday Eugene!

My sweet husband turns 30 this thursday and his cake request was a pool table cake so here's what he got...

It was my first time working with fondant and I really like working with it but as far as eating it, I'd rather not.  It has no taste, I think the next time I use it I'll add some vanilla or almond extract to it to see if that will improve the taste.

My First Post

So this is my first post on my "Cake" blog and just so you know I'm pretty nervous about pursuing this whole cake decorating thing.  I mean, don't get me wrong I LOVE decorating cakes but I'm really just starting out and I would really love to take lessons and get some more experience before I take the full plung in making cakes for perfect strangers.

I am my worst critic BY FAR!!!  And I have always been worried about pleasing people so you have to understand that making something for people I don't know makes me a bit nauseous to think about but I'm trying to work through my fears.

Here are some pictures of the only cakes I've done so far.  Please keep in mind that the Spiderman cake was a practice cake and was not actually the cake for the Birthday boy (which happened to be my friend's son Jacob).

My sweet husband will be turning 30 next month and has requested a "pool table cake".  EEEK!  I think he thinks I work for Charm City Cakes or something.  I'll let you know how that goes :)
